While browsing the market, we came across a vast array of handmade products, from intricate jewellery and artwork to delicious homemade preserves. The friendly stallholders were more than happy to share their passion for their crafts and offer suggestions for the perfect gift or souvenir.
The highlight of our trip to Elsecar was undoubtedly the heritage steam railway. Operated by a team of dedicated volunteers, this lovingly restored train provides a nostalgic journey back in time. We eagerly boarded the vintage carriages and were soon chugging along the track, enjoying the scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
However, we found the experience slightly underwhelming due to the short length of the track, which meant that the train simply went back and forth a few times. Nevertheless, it was still a fun and unique activity that we enjoyed, especially as it provided a rare opportunity to travel on a steam-powered train.
